We did it again but raised the bar this time! The class of 2024 achieved a pass rate of 99.5%, while similar to the class of 2023, the notable difference being the number of Bachelor Passes we have achieved.
We recall that this group of matriculants were in Grade 8 during the COVID pandemic and despite the challenges they faced during that difficult period, they all pulled through to 2024. There was significant emotional trauma endured by several learners and not only their respective families but everyone around them. Supported by family, the school and friends, they found the strength to persevere and shine through to successfully complete their matric year. You are heroes in our eyes!
214 matriculants wrote the final exams at BHS and 213 passed, many more than most other schools. Rest assured the one learner who did not achieve a pass will receive our continued support to ensure that they successfully enrol for the Supplementary exams in June.
The Metro South District which we form part of achieved an 84.30% overall pass compared to 78.50% in 2023. Across the District the Bachelor pass rate improved from 39% to 44.6%.
The BHS class of 2024 achieved 87,4% Bachelor passes (187) compared to 87.3% in 2023. The highest ever in the history of the school. 10.3% (22) learners achieved Diploma passes and 1.9% (4) passed with a Higher Certificate. Essentially all of these learners have an opportunity to pursue some form of tertiary education, should they choose to do so.
As we acknowledge the Top 20 we also recognise and applaud the primary schools which they attended
Several subjects also achieved 100% pass rates, they were:
CAT, Consumer and Dance Studies, Dramatic Arts, English, Geography, History, Life Orientation, Maths Literacy, Tourism and Music.
We acknowledge the significant role the primary schools have played in the lives of these learners and the parents who entrusted their children to our care. They laid the foundation, provided the necessary support to this amazing group of young adults and allowed us as the staff of Bergvliet High School to develop and nurture them further.
Our SGB parents have also been instrumental in ensuring that we raise the standards across all subjects. To the staff who taught these learners over the past 5 years, some have retired or moved on to other ventures, we thank them for the role they played in your child’s success today. The Administrative, Housekeeping and Maintenance staff also share in the success of these learners today, because of their daily contributions to administrative tasks, good infrastructure or a clean
environment. Let us also not forget Bongani and Gary who on a daily basis ensured the safety of your child while on the school premises.
At the forefront of our Academic Programme is our Deputy Principal – Head of Academics, Mr Cohen, who with his team of teachers and invigilators, ensured that all checks and balances were in place throughout the year, particularly over the final exam period. Together with the staff who sacrificed school holidays, after hours on week days and Saturdays, you made today’s results possible.
To our Academic Support staff Mrs Ramjatan and Miss Solomon, the Power of 50 tutors and Peer Helpers who also played a significant role in today’s successful results, we say thank you!
We Salute you Class of 2024! You inspire and motivate us to keep doing what we do and do it even better in the years ahead.
Mrs P Demas
